Every Thursday I look back to the past

Earlier this week I found this lovely picture of Dave, Steph and their longtime friend Erol Alkan.

It was featured in this article by Belgian newspaper De Morgen from 2016 about the end of Culture Club, the famous discotheque in Ghent. The club had opened in 2002, just as 2manydjs were about to go global and it was all about ‘electroclash’ (I never heard the word ‘bloghouse’ at the time tbh).

Looking at Dave and Steph’s buttons (DFA / Make It Happen) I assume this picture was taken in 2002.

I was lucky to attend a few parties with 2manydjs at Culture Club. One of my most vivid memories was them playing their acetate of ‘Smells Like Booty’ and the place erupted. For a short period of time, Culture Club was for Belgium what Trash was for London.

The club was designed by Glenn Sestig, who also did DEEWEE 001
