In this series I look back at all the releases on DEEWEE, this week: DEEWEE 019: Soulwax – Transient Program For Drums And Machinery
“It took a long time, it took a long time for you to come around…”
The opening lyrics of the first Soulwax release on their own DEEWEE label couldn’t be more true. In 2016 ‘Transient Program For Drums And Machinery’ was the first Soulwax release since the 2006 Nite Versions album.
The track was released in December of 2016. In the summer of that year Soulwax came back on stage with a completely new live setup and band consisting of three drummers. Although they played a lot of new tracks in that live set, it would take another four months before ‘From DEEWEE‘ came out.
The original version that you can hear on DEEWEE 019 is just over eight minutes long, while the version on the ‘From DEEWEE’ album is just over six minutes long.

DEEWEE 019 was released as a limited edition of 500 copies in collaboration with The Vinyl Factory and it has an etching on the B-side.
Coincidentally “I was there when Soulwax came up with the title ‘Transient Program For Drums And Machinery” (not losing my edge there).
On Sunday July 10, 2016, the band played at the Terres De Son festival in France. Sitting backstage, in the afternoon in the catering tent, Stephen was looking for a title or description that could fit the new Soulwax live setup. Synth tech Abby Echiverry (who most definitely didn’t lose here edge ) came up with ‘transient program’ and it turned into ‘Transient Program For Drums And Machinery’.
Portugal beat France later that night to win the UEFA European Championship for the very first time (but that is probably less relevant).
